Mexico City Grand Prix: A Weekend That Could Go Down in History

Published on 27 October 2026 at 13:57

The Formula 1 season continues in Mexico City for the second race of the triple-header! The Mexican Grand Prix is known for its passionate fans, unique atmosphere and the challenges of racing at high altitude. With the championship battle heating up, all eyes will be on the drivers as they take on the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. Who will come out on top this weekend?ons.

Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez

The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez is located in Mexico City and offers a unique challenge for the Formula 1 drivers. The circuit is 4.304 kilometres long and features 17 corners, combining long straights with technical sections that require precision and good car control.

One of the biggest challenges is the circuit's high altitude. The thin air affects engine performance, aerodynamic downforce and cooling, making it difficult for teams to find the right balance. The long main straight gives drivers the opportunity to reach high speeds, but the heavy braking zones, especially at Turn 1, provide opportunities for overtaking.

A highlight of the lap is the stadium section, where the track winds through the Foro Sol area. Surrounded by thousands of passionate fans, this part of the circuit creates one of the most recognisable atmospheres on the Formula 1 calendar.

Mexico Grand prix 2025 what happened?

The 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix played an important role in the championship fight. Lando Norris took victory, putting himself at the top of the Drivers' Championship for the first time since the Bahrain Grand Prix earlier that season. He moved one point ahead of McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri, who crossed the finish line in fifth place.

Max Verstappen finished third in the standings, 36 points behind Norris, keeping the title battle alive. In the Constructors' Championship, McLaren strengthened its position with 713 points, while Ferrari moved ahead of Mercedes into second place by just one point. With the championship battles so close, every result counted as the season approached its final stages.

How can Kimi become world champion in Mexico?

Kimi Antonelli has another chance to become World Champion this weekend!  After coming incredibly close to securing the title in Austin, where he took the victory but missed out on the championship due to the results of his rivals, the young Italian heads to Mexico with another opportunity to make history.

So, what does he need to do? The good news for Antonelli is that he only needs to score two points to secure the title. A ninth-place finish would be enough to crown him World Champion, regardless of where his closest rivals, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton, finish. Even if he fails to score, he could still clinch the championship if neither rival wins the race.

With his championship lead now so substantial, the pressure is no longer on Antonelli to win every race. Instead, he is just one step away from achieving something truly special. Can Kimi get the job done in Mexico City and become the youngest World Champion in Formula 1 history?
